Next Stop: Dubai

It snowed in Seattle on departure day.  Not just a few flurries – one of those snow days that can potentially shut the city down.  We kept an eye on the accumulating snow outside of our hotel window as we sipped champagne for breakfast (not too much, as we didn’t want to be dehydrated on the plane). Champagne for breakfast??  Of course, champagne for breakfast!  We had to celebrate.  After a crazy sprint to get last minute COVID PCR tests (see our previous post for details on THAT adventure), the results arrived overnight and both came back negative.  Cheers!

Our flight didn’t depart until 4:00 pm, so we had plenty of time to exercise, repack, clean up and relax before heading to the airport. Our habit is to stay at a hotel near the airport on the night prior to a flight, so we don’t have to worry about timing, driving, and other associated logistics, and this time we chose the Seattle Airport Marriott.

Neither of us had stayed at this particular hotel before, so we decided to give it a try. One of the perks of the American Express Platinum card is automatic Gold status at a variety of hotel chains, and that gave us an upgraded room, breakfast, and a late check out, which definitely came in handy due to our late afternoon departure.  As the snow kept piling up, we wondered if we were actually going to get out.

If we had to stay, it wouldn’t be a bad thing.  We both enjoyed the recently updated décor, the comfortable bed, and the frosted glass bathroom with a large shower and dual vanities. We’d ordered room service the night before, and it was promptly delivered and oh so delicious.  Breakfast in the on-site restaurant the next morning was equally delicious, and the atrium gym was huge, clean, and fully equipped, although we didn’t use it (we had plenty of TIME to exercise, we never said we actually DID).  And as the snow kept piling up, we were extra grateful for the complimentary shuttle service to the airport, since there were no taxis or ride-share cars on the icy roads

After breakfast, we took a little walk around the large lobby and atrium, sat by the fireplace and read for a bit, and then had the staff help us print out our COVID test results to take with us for check in.

Dubai, here we come!
